By the second minute in I felt quite a bit different. I undergo what I'm almost certain is seasonal afflictive disorder which is triggered by my lack of stress management and my inability to control unnecessary anxiety. I've been feeling just slightly icky today, and this has really changed the way I'm feeling (I'd like to add that I have been to the doctor for my depression. NEVER put that off, as nothing will change the negativity faster and get you back to reality than meds and counseling.)

It's not a quick-fix or something to instantly make them feel better, it's a long term solution that makes people feel better immediately because they are moving forward. The problem with "self-help" is all summed up in the title "self" meaning all me me me, add the "help", we assume we can just fix ourself by "1" magic book. True change and help will take more than the same brain that created the mess you're in. Most of all, we are the most impatient generation in the most impatient nation. I thought Mark Hansen came off very badly, he seemed insecure and his points were often irrelevant, labored or badly constructed, and the other guy does make an important point. Too many people turn to self-help for comfort, in the same way that they turn to double cheeseburgers - not to solve their underlying problems, but just for short-term relief, and thus they are never cured and always need their self-help fix. I believe mentoring a millionaire is valid - but only if that millionaire did something besides make his million by teaching other people to make millions. In a sense these people are teaching people how to be successful without having really done anything significant other than writing these books. It is a bit of a scam.

Both of them are right. While Mark's books have helped people through their lives, Steve's methods of learning to solve the problem on your own is also GREAT! so technically their both right, and arguing about which one is correct is pointless.

This dude can not argue with the fact that millions of lives have been changed. It is one thing to read the book,it's another thing to apply the principles that you have learned. People know smoking is bad for health , but they don't apply it and they still smoke. APPLICATION is key.Especially in this negative ,world that constantly bashes self esteem.
