Patience…

Forms of patience

As I grow through personal growth and self-improvement I have come to realize that there are different forms of patience.

At one end of the scale, patience can take the form of the passive act of waiting without annoyance, aggravation, agitation or complaint.

On the other, patience can also be linked to action – the painstaking completion of a laborious task or the relentless pursuit of a goal.

Winning Thinking…

Reading time: < 1 minute

Today think like a winner

Okay who hasn’t been beat-up in the past either by their friends, family or the hardest judge of all themselves?

Who hasn’t had times of discouragement?

Haven’t we all had times when we didn’t get the encouragement, approval or even love that we felt we needed.

S. A. D. …

Reading time: 1 – 2 minutes

Social phobia

Today I would like to share with you some of the recent readings I have come across on my personal growth journey. Often our progress in the self improvement and personal development is affected by social anxiety disorder [S.A.D.] This is also known as social phobia. I have read an interesting description of this which goes like-social phobia is an excessive worry fear or concern of what others may think about us.

While I agree that the opinions of others should matter and in a civilized world we are concerned about other people’s opinions. It is when someone’s feelings show an exaggerated concern for public opinions so much so that it goes beyond that need to simply relates to others for our mutual benefit that we should worry because this can effect our personal growth potential.

Social phobia occurs in our imagination as we often unconsciously assume [making an ass of you and me] that other people will see us as awkward, stupid, cursed, or with some other unacceptable quality. With our vivid imagination and the passing of time we may even sink to the level of believing that we are have those perceived unacceptable qualities.

Visualizing victory

The power of seeing…

As we continue on our journey of personal growth and self improvement I would like today to talk about the importance of visualization, and in particular of visualizing victory.

Have you ever had that little voice inside your head saying:

“I’m not good enough?”

Motivation Plus …

Reading time: 2 – 2 minutes

Motivation Plus Momentum

When you have made the decision to take on the life change of personal growth and set your first group of goals actually getting started – taking action – can often be the most difficult step. We all know how easy it is to do it all in our head where we can to dream and plan without really having to actually do anything. A lot of people grind to a halt here spin their wheels and avoid taking action. Planning and dreaming could make you think that you’re doing something about your goals, but if you never really take action like taking a step forward like stepping up to the plate then you’ll never achieve them. To see measurable progress, you have to push yourself out of your comfort zones and take action.

When your motivation and courage combine and you start to move ahead what generally happens? You recognize it’s WAY harder than you guessed it would be, right? It feels like you’re trying to sprint uphill. You keep stumbling across hurdles and humbling circumstance, facing setbacks and delays, grappling with fear and anxiety, and brawling in the daily battle to stay focused and motivated.

This is the time most normal people would throw in the towel. They say to themselves that “it isn’t meant to be” right now, so they set their goals dreams aside and promise themselves that they try again later. Or sorrier, they reconcile themselves to live a life of meritocracy because they don’t believe they have what it takes to succeed. They’ve “failed,” so they’re not going to try any more.

Best of All…

Reading time: 1 – 2 minutes

You’re Already in the Best of All Possible Situations

I have recently finished reading a birthday gift that I was given it is called “Bonds That Make Us Free” by Terry Warner. I enjoyed the book even though at times it was a bit too repetitive for my liking. Hey who is perfect! I’m the first to put my hand up to say that I’m a work in progress model – and there is a lot of room for personal growth. This book reminded me of concept that you are currently in the “Best of All Possible Situations.” While the saying goes that the other farmers grass is greener is always greener I think we must look for the balance and be grateful for all that we have.

I believe that the concept of appreciating where we are now can be retraced to Søren Kierkegaard’s parable of The Two Artists:

” Suppose there were two artists, and the one said, “I have traveled much and seen much in the world, but I have sought in vain to find a man worth painting. I have found no face with such perfection of beauty that I could make up my mind to paint it. In every face I have seen one or another little fault. Therefore I seek in vain.”

Wrong About the Law of Attraction…

Reading time: 1 – 2 minutes

Are the Prophets of Doom Wrong About the Law of Attraction

Many Prophets of Doom don’t like the Law of Attraction
During my studies of personal growth and self improvement I had come into contact with certain people who seem to have made it their mission to dispute and dispel the Law of Attraction. Here is why I think that they’re wrong.

What is the Law of Attraction?

To start with I asked myself what is it that I believe the law of attraction states – simply – that you get what you think about. Others say it in a different way – like attracts like. The basic assumption behind the law of attraction is that it is indifferent and neutral and doesn’t get emotional like people. And whether you’re consciously aware or not of thinking negative or positive thoughts, the law of attraction will give you what you think about. Read the rest of this entry »
