Now Is The Time to…

In personal development and self improvement as in many areas of our lives it has often been said “The greater the risk, the greater the return”. People who are in business will often tell you how true that phrase is. There has always been a trade-off between risk and returns. It is a logical relationship. The more risk you take, the more returns you’ll expect to get and the less risk you take, the lesser the returns you’ll expect to get.

But, are you taking a risk with your life? Are you letting life (or rather, situations) control your behavior? Are you leaving it all to luck? If yes, be alert because you’ll never know when you will have to lose everything you have. If there is one place where the phrase “more risk means more return” DOES NOT apply, it has to be your life.

We humans are habitual of copying the behavior of others that we see around us. For the same reason, we have “learned” to take life as it comes and without any plan. If a situation makes us happy, we get happy. If a situation makes us sad, we get sad. If a situation makes us give up, we give up! There are so many people around us who have no “life”, who have no idea why they are alive and they lack a direction. They simply “exist”.

You Have Choices…

Exercising Your Right to Choose

You are a decision maker. Everyday as we travel along the path of self improvement and personal development we make choices and decisions - hundreds every day both those that we are aware of and those that our subconscious work on.

When it comes to making decisions, a chronic sense of disempowerment often results in feelings of helplessness or hopelessness that can affect the choices you make and determine your quality of life.

When you live your life as a disempowered person, you often feel like the majority of your life experiences are out of your control. You allow other people or events to determine what you think, say and do; how you spend your time, and even the general direction your life takes.

Best of All…

You’re Already in the Best of All Possible Situations

I have recently finished reading a birthday gift that I was given it is called Bonds That Make Us Freeby Terry Warner. I enjoyed the book even though at times it was a bit too repetitive for my liking. Hey who is perfect! I’m the first to put my hand up to say that I’m a work in progress model - and there is a lot of room for personal growth. This book reminded me of concept that you are currently in the “Best of All Possible Situations.” While the saying goes that the other farmers grass is greener is always greener I think we must look for the balance and be grateful for all that we have.

I believe that the concept of appreciating where we are now can be retraced to Søren Kierkegaard’s parable of The Two Artists:

” Suppose there were two artists, and the one said, “I have traveled much and seen much in the world, but I have sought in vain to find a man worth painting. I have found no face with such perfection of beauty that I could make up my mind to paint it. In every face I have seen one or another little fault. Therefore I seek in vain.”

Chain Gang Desperation.

Do you ever feel trapped by desperation?

“The mass of people live lives of quiet desperation.” is attributed to Henry David Thoreau.

Are you part of the mass? Do you want to change your life?

If you were capable of taking a step or two back and to honestly look at yourself and maybe even your society, you might see a few things that would shock you.

Happiness Happiness the greatest…

Happiness Happiness the greatest gift that I possess.

What is it that makes you happy? That special something that has you forget time and space and become absorbed in something you love?

I believe each of us is uniquely a genius - we have encoded in our DNA great abilities and talents that are waiting to be tapped into. We tap into these and our personal growth by way of self improvement. And when that happens - you cannot help but feel a sense of connection to whom you really are.

What may seem like hard work to one person may be a breeze to someone else - and its usually because they are doing what they love. So how do you discover that? How do you know what you are wired for?

Living in Reality to Better your Personal Life

When you live in reality you better your personal life.

Reality is close to you everywhere you go. When you attempt to break away reality, you only block yourself from growing. Your qualities inside you are blocked also, as you’ll find out its difficult to develop new skills or be open to new ideas that will help you develop and grow.

Today, we are surrounded by poverty, crime, poor conditions, war, hate, and so forth. The forces of life combine to drag each of us down. It’s up to us to get the better of these ongoing conflicts and obstacles that get in our way. One way we can do this is to face reality head on.

It’s all right to fantasize about good things from time to time. But it is not hunky-dory to sit down entirely day dreaming about things you’ll never achieve. Whenever you have realistic dreams, you will set down-to-earth goals that lead you to success irrespective of the circumstance close to you.
