Two views of enlightenment.
Often when I am listening to or reading personal growth material I have to remind myself of the different views of enlightenment.
It is said that Western thinkers traditionally mean by enlightenment is the triumph of the reason [over, for example, self gratification, seeing, tradition or prejudice], whereas Eastern sages habitually see the term to mean the souls triumph over reason, as in the Buddha’s moment of enlightenment under the Bodhi tree.
The one that places emphasis on understanding, the other on the acceptance.
