Tools of peacemaking

“Peace is not the absence of war: it is a virtue; a state of mind; a disposition for benevolence and justice” – Benedict de Spinosa

As part of our self-improvement and personal development we come across situations where we must understand about peacemaking.

I have found this to help me when I think about what we have learned from our past. The native Americans provided a form and a ritual for establishing peace, including the pipe of peace and the ceremony of burying the axe.

Like raising the flag of truce such procedures make it easier for the peace maker to work.

At a personal level we also use certain accepted gestures are actions as a piece overture when we wish to resolve a conflict with, for example a loved one.

However these signals are only a declaration of intent, qualities such as patience, empathy and understanding are needed to build a lasting peace.

I hope that you will find these tools as helpful as I have
