Tips to Making the Right Decisions
“In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.”–Theodore Roosevelt
Recently when I sat down to catch up on my personal growth plan I had this horrible feeling of frustration. So I realized that my head was not in the right place to handle personal development and self improvement things. It got me thinking why was my head not in the right place and what was all this cloud that was around me and distracting me?
When I stopped and started thinking about this I realized that what was making all the noise in my head was the decisions that I was making and my brain was doing a big plus or minus on every thing that was going on.
Every day we make hundreds if not thousands of decisions. Sometimes we are not aware that we have even made a decision we’re on autopilot.
Decisions are the heartbeats of our lives. They make or break us.
How often do you stop and ask yourself am I making good decisions or not so good ones?
Here are some tips to improve your decisions which I hope will give you life transforming results.
Being Present – When we are busy the mind tends to move ahead of your body – we can think of doing things much faster than it can actually take us for example “Lets go to the ball game” takes a few seconds in thought but how long in action?
This is where things get mislaid and lost, accidents and misunderstandings occur, confusion sets in, and time gets wasted. Bring your mind to the present moment. Stay focused on what you want to complete one step at a time.
Research Your Options – Consider all of your choices. If you can’t see alternatives, ask others what they see for you.
To discover the right answer ask yourself questions so that you can put first things first. Here are some of my favorites:
* Will this choice propel me toward an inspiring future or will it keep me stuck in the past?
* Will this choice bring me long-term fulfilment or will it bring me short-term gratification?
* Is this an act of self-love or is it an act of self-sabotage?
* Am I doing this because I want to or am I trying to please someone else?
* Will this choice add to my life purpose or will it drain me of my energy?
Listen to Your Intuition – Is this decision ego or soul driven?
Where does it come from the head or the heart? The heart is pure and true it’s the head that generates all the noise and clouds as it analyzes everything.
Stop – Be still, breathe, listen, be at peace, and rejuvenate. Make decisions from a place of renewal and growth rather than from a source that is being drained.
Take Action on the Important Stuff First – When you find out the right answers follow up with immediate action trusting that you have everything within you to handle whatever the outcome.
The right answers are not always the easiest. Know you are capable of so much more.
