What do you think of the ideas in “Men are from Mars..”?

Andry S asked:
The book “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus”. Are the ideas presented in the book really true? Men want to solve problems themselves, and women want to talk. I feel that to a certain extent, it is true. Other than that, I think the rest are easy to say but difficult to do. How do you fare those ideas for relationship startings? I think these ideas are good for self-improvement, but not starting a relationship. Tell me what you all feel and think about the ideas. Thanks a bunch.

I’ve read that book years ago, so I’ve forgotten the details. But I still get the essence of what the book is trying to say. Yes men and women are different, and to some extent the book is true. I agree that the ideas are good for self improvement, but I also agree it’s good for relationship (more to improve relationship than to start one). It takes two people to work a relationship. So I think it won’t work if only 1 person reading the book and trying to act on those ideas. That person will think, I’m the one who’s learning to be a good partner. I’m the one who’s giving it all. He/she’s not doing his/her best in this relationship. In the end, it won’t work. So, it’s best if both read the book, discuss it, point out each other “habits”( like: see, I’m not the only one who hates it when you do that, all guys hate it, the book says so), jokingly of course, admits self “facts” like: Hey, I’m like that. I didn’t know guys won’t like it when I do that. etc”
That’s the ideal way to use this book and make it work I think, but it’s hard to make the other person read it and willing to give an effort, especially if they don’t see what’s wrong with them or their relationship.
Take a short cut, when you find a chapter or passage that’s define what you want your partner to understand, point it out,” Honey, read this chapter please.”
